Today is World Book Day. For those of you who aren’t aware, most junior schools around Britain celebrate this day by inviting the pupils to dress up as a character from one of their favourite books. This year, Moe (my daughter) went as Willy Wonka. On this day, before setting off to school, it’s customary that I document this historical event with my trusty point-and-shoot Nikon Coolpix. Before hitting the shutter release on any family snap occasion, Moe’s usual chirp is, “Dad, don’t do any weird shots, you know it makes mum angry and nana gets upset with you too” This crude unsympathetic outburst translates as anything abstracted, non-representational, ambiguous, metaphysical, notional, symbolic or conceptual is not quite their cup of tea!
